Inspired by the artist Kara Walker who I was introduced to in AP Art History, I incorporated black-and-white shadow play to represent the historic battles waged at Woodcroft Castle. This is an illustration from my children’s book, The Peacock Tree. I hoped to convey the gravity of medieval war, taking a non graphic approach that would be appropriate for younger readers.
