I created this portrait for an Advanced Fine Arts assignment to paint a self-portrait. I drew inspiration from art history, namely Ulpiano Checa's The Balcony. My face emerges from a dark background like the mysterious man in Checa’s piece, but unlike Checa's piece, the face is the primary subject. I chose this approach to explore the contrast between my outward energy and inner thoughts, intending to capture a sense of depth.
